Get to know Classroom 2 Capitol
Classroom 2 Capitol inspires students from underserved communities by providing fully funded educational explorations to Washington, D.C., while motivating participants toward a life of civic engagement and public service.
In May of 2022, Classroom 2 Capitol will be taking the first of many adventures to our nation's capital. This trip will be fully funded by our program. The first wave of this program will focus on the children of the Youngstown City School District.
Classroom 2 Capitol aims to bring in current and past elected officials directly into the classroom. The intent is to allow students to interact and engage with officials to fully understand the responsibility and capability associated with holding office. We hope to inspire tomorrow's leaders by seeing today's officials.
Classroom 2 Capitol plans on holding a summer camp where children can compete in Model U.N. and Model Congress competitions, take trips to City Hall, and learn about local and state government— all while engaging in a fun and educational atmosphere with their peers while fostering life-long relationships.
Classroom 2 Capitol is a proud partner of the Youth and Government program in the Mahoning Valley. The Ohio YMCA's Youth & Government Program enhances development of the American democratic process for young people through participatory training in the theory and practice of the Ohio state government.
Students in the program learn about the legislative process, how to write and research bills, and how to participate in the electoral process.
Classroom 2 Capitol is committed to creating an inclusive and diverse organization where all board members, staff, volunteers, and clients are treated with respect and fairness regardless of gender, age, race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation or identity, disability, education, or any other bias. Classroom 2 Capitol will communicate and exemplify that commitment to our board members, staff, volunteers, and clients through our policies and actions. We’re committed to modeling diversity, inclusion, and equity and maintaining fair and equal treatment for all; in fact, equity for the historically underserved is at the heart of our very purpose.
Our board’s philosophy on our goals to provide informed leadership for diversity, inclusion, and equity include:
